Thank you to the over 80% of you who submitted your Backerkit Survey so far! If you already completed the survey but require a last minute change of address, feel free to update your shipping address anytime within the next week until the survey closes.

If you have not yet completed your survey, please take a moment to do so as soon as you can! If you cannot find your Backerkit Survey email, you can retrieve your survey here.

O6 Wins 2017 Red Dot Product Design Award

In other news, we are proud to announce that O6 has received the coveted 2017 Red Dot Product Design Award. We are honored to receive this prestigious international recognition. It is a much sought-after seal of quality for products with outstanding design. Thank you for making this happen!

O6 Manufacturing Update

We are in the process of completing our international regulatory and safety certifications for Battery, Bluetooth, FCC, CE, IC etc. These certifications and approvals are a must before we can ship your O6 to you via international air or ground.

Under the current timeline, we plan to start production on or before April 20th once the certifications are complete, and begin shipping your units starting April 25th latest. Your O6 will take 3-5 days to arrive via DHL International Priority. We appreciate your patience and will keep you updated.

O6 Featured on IndieGogo InDemand

We are grateful to all of our backers for their early support to make O6 a reality. To produce O6 at a cost effective price, our factory has a minimum order quantity that is greater than our current Kickstarter orders. In order to sell out our remaining O6 units from our first batch, we will be launching pre-orders on IndieGogo InDemand for a few weeks.

Please note that we have increased the price of O6, accessories, as well as our shipping fees since our Kickstarter campaign. As delivery begins, rest assured that our Kickstarter backers will be first on the list to receive units.

Thank you again for your support. We’ll be in touch with details as we prepare to start production and ship your O6!

One More Thing... A Blog: "How Distracting are Distractions?"

Ancient wisdom says "The mind is like the wind, it never stays still." This holds true even when we drive. In a desperate attempt to keep our minds occupied, we reach for our phones.

The results are pernicious. According to the National Safety Council, over 17,000 people died on US roads in the first six months of 2016 alone. This marks the highest increase in 50 years -- a sharp uptick attributed largely to driver distraction. The dangers of driver distraction are real.

Distraction can be broken into four categories... Read more here

Thank You + Next Steps on Shipment
about 7 years ago – Fri, Mar 03, 2017 at 05:50:36 PM

Thank you for making our project a reality! A few things need to happen before we can kick off production and fulfillment.

Here's a quick rundown:

  • A personal Backerkit survey will arrive in your inbox early next week. We ask that you take a moment to select an accessory color and provide your shipping address. It is important to submit your responses as quickly as you can since we need this information to process your rewards.

If you need need to alter your accessories order or update your shipping information after you have submitted the survey, feel free to fill out and submit the survey again. You can also hit the “Lost your survey?” link on our BackerKit project page to request a new form. If you used Facebook to log into your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey link will be sent to the email you used for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you'd prefer to use, please contact our team.

  • The O6 device, steering wheel mount, and pocket clip are currently available in two colors -- Tangerine Orange and Cool Gray. As this first production run will be limited, we are unable to offer the O6 device in Glacier Blue or the wristband accessory in this particular batch. We look forward to expanding our color and accessory offerings as production volume scales. Under our current timeline, all Kickstarter O6 orders are scheduled to be sent in April and will arrive within a week of shipment.

That’s all for now! Again, thanks for all your support. We can’t wait to send you your O6.

Design for Manufacturability of O6 device
about 7 years ago – Fri, Mar 03, 2017 at 07:40:18 AM

The manufacturing of the O6 device is progressing well! We implemented a design freeze in July, and are progressing well in our Design for Manufacturability (DFM) process of building our first Engineering Validation Test (EVT) prototypes by end of September. What that means is that we will have 50 prototypes in early October ready for testing!

Design

The design freeze is to ensure that hundreds of components can actually be assembled and integrated to meet our functional requirements. To build these units at scale, we have to meticulously ensure that hundreds of tiny and large components come together in the right way to build your O6. Here is an assembly blowout drawing of all the O6 components!

First EVT Prototypes

After the design freeze, we start the iterative process of building and fabricating components, and assembling a few parts at a time to ensure they fit and function together. Here is an image of our first production parts that we received last week. They work fine, but we identified one issue where the tolerances were not quite right. This process is used to identify and solve such issues, so this problem is not unexpected.

We also are implementing changes to our electronic board to ensure that we can produce reliable boards at scale. To do this, we are replacing prototype components with more reliable production components, and building and testing these boards in daily use as well as simulated environments. Here is a picture of our latest production electronic board!

Next Update

In our next update, we will provide behind-the-scenes details about our electronic board and give you a glimpse into the product behind-the-product: the automated test equipment that we built to automatically test boards! We are on track to have 50 test units ready in late September. At that point, we would welcome anyone visiting the San Francisco Bay Area to come visit us and test these prototypes. Thanks again for your support!
