Production is just around the corner! We just received 30 units wrapped in the packaging that got the most votes from our Kickstarter Backers. Thanks to all of you who weighed in on this. These units are currently undergoing thorough testing to help us identify any last issues before we pull the trigger on mass production. At this moment, we’re on track to produce 3,000 units in late March. Under this timeline, your O6 will arrive by April 15, 2017!
Check out some images of our final production units and packaging below:
The vast majority of this 30-unit batch have passed testing with flying colors with the exception of minor mechanical issues found in a few units. We’ll also be dedicating time this month to fine-tune O6 software for improved responsiveness. We’re expecting another shipment of 30 next week, and these units will undergo the same tests.
Over the next two weeks, a handful of units will be rolling out to beta testers. We’re thankful for these volunteers from our Kickstarter Community who were kind enough to lend us some of their valuable time.
Next Steps
Our goal for March to is to build about 100 to 200 Production Validation Test Units (PVT) to ensure that we can efficiently assemble the O6 devices and packaging. In addition, we have started the process for certifying our products for FCC, CE, IC, and Bluetooth. These certifications and approvals are needed before we can ship these devices to you.Important
Next week, we will send out an email requesting that you update your shipping address and make final selections on colors and accessories. We will send a couple of reminders via email, but please fill up the survey as soon as you can! This will help us start production on time.
O6 APP: We Need Your Help Beta Testing
The O6 app underwent a few significant architectural changes, improved responsiveness to touch screen, in-vehicle controls, and the O6 device itself. We have added two new channels that will be usable only when we ship the O6 device: “Contacts” and “Notifications.” “Contacts” gives you the ability to make phone calls from your address book, mark contacts as favorites, and more. “Notifications” will be the dashboard you consult to find your latest text, messages, emails, and alerts organized chronologically.
While you wait for your O6 device, we’d love for you to join our crew of dedicated beta testers to give the O6 app a spin and provide feedback. To lend a hand, follow the instructions below:Controlling the app
When you receive your O6 device, you will have complete control of this app without ever having to touch your phone. For now, you will have to use one of these alternative controls:
“Old School” tapping. This method involves simply opening the O6 app and tapping away at the various features.
Audio Headset. Headsets usually have controls to play/pause (single click), skip to next track (double click) or previous track (triple click). Use these commands within the app to test this control method.
Bluetooth Headphones. Most Bluetooth headphones have dedicated buttons for play/pause, previous and next. If you use Bluetooth, we encourage you to give those commands a try.
Lock Screen. After you start O6, you can lock your phone and “iOS Control Center” will show up on your lock screen. Use this center to issue O6 commands.
iOS Control Center. Swipe up from just about anywhere in iOS to access controls for play/pause, next and previous. Test this control method when you are busy using another app, allowing you to use O6 in the background.
Car Steering Wheel. If your car has controls on the steering wheel, try using Next Track and Previous Track buttons to navigate the app. Play/Pause may be on your dashboard, but that should work as well. (Note: Check your car manual if you need help connecting your phone to your car’s sound system)
The app will be much easier and fun to use when you get your O6 device. This will allow complete control of the app without touching your phone. This will include going to the menu, switching channels and taking actions. This makes a world of difference.
After trying out the app, we encourage you to relay any feedback or bug reports to: [email protected]. Thanks in advance for your help!
Device Beta Testing
In our last update, we requested beta testers. We received MANY requests for beta testers -- thank you! Unfortunately, we quickly identified a few issues on our initial beta units that delayed our ability to accommodate your requests. We thank you for emailing us and sincerely apologize for not keeping you updated.
Now that we have received our pre-production beta units, we will begin contacting beta testers within the next two weeks and slowly mailing the initial units. You will receive an email requesting that you fill out a short form to provide us your shipping information. Stay tuned!
